Check out this graph of newspaper revenue sources year over year. We’ve all heard about how circulation and ad revenues are plummeting, but less attention has been paid to the growth in on-line revenues. Although it’s still a very small percentage of overall paper revenues, it does speak to where the business is going.
Savvy PR professionals are looking for ways to align with this trend by making their journalist and blogger facing collateral more digital friendly just as editors are enriching their sites with more multi-media elements and using social media to find sources and interact with their audience (a few journalists from the Atlantic chat about just that here if you’re interested).
Okay, perhaps it doesn’t make the glass half full but it does suggest one area of future growth and a good way to plug yourself and your clients in. How are you doing it?
